Ahh, Loki, Loki, Loki. Here we go again. Another version of the Norse trickster god. Good? Evil? Young? Old? Heroic? Male? Female? Mischievous? All the above? Let’s start with the story. Nothing too new here except that this time Loki sits upon the throne, not of Asgard but Jotunheim. He got what he always wanted and it does not live up to expectations. Daniel Kibblesmith does a fairly decent job of taking Jason Aaron and Al Ewing’s Loki on his next journey. The inner monologue sounds about the same and actions certainly feel like current Loki but the actual events of the story are meh. Nightmare shows up, get ass kicked, etc. Ghost of future Thor tells of future evil Loki. Been there done that. The best part is the story he relates in the letters page. That made me wanting to read what’s next. Not a good thing but at least I will try issue #2 not because it’s a Thor related book but because I like the premise promised in that story. As far as the visuals, artist Oscar Bazaldua and colorist David Curiel do a very good imitation of Olivier Coipel and Dave Stewart. Yet that’s the problem isn’t it. Nothing is awful or garish, I just feel it could be so much better because there is some talent here. Raw but talent nonetheless. I hope this duo stay together for some time as I feel in a year or two things will be amazing. Not as great as Kid Loki or Agent of Asgard Loki but 1000 times better than Vote Loki!
