Nameless #2 (2015) second print

Nameless remains a cryptic head scratcher, alternately frustrating and fascinating, but compels and intrigues all the same. Burnham's art is stunning, complimented by eye popping colors by frequent collaborator Nathan Fairbairn, deservedly above the title alongside Morrison and Burnham. The set pieces containing the suspenseful yarn are alternately claustrophobic and epically expansive. Individual characters are emerging beside Mr. Nameless, namely Sofia Darius who gains some gravity and definition. The dialogue is uneven, but often crackles. It is questionable dating the dialogue through winking pop culture references, mentioning The Exorcist and Apollo 13 for example. #2 calls to mind the group discussions between the ensembles in the Alien films. Nameless is far from perfect, but it holds a level of mystique and danger that fascinates. Let's hope for a payoff that delivers in the end!
