BONUS REVIEW by Rick "Bad day" Berg

Norse runes are incredibly hard to read even if you understand them. This is the comic adaptation of Neil's fantastic book, that recounts the North myths that are contained in those runes. This has fantastic artwork by P. Craig Russell, Mike Mignola, Jerry Ordway, Dave Stewart, Lovern Kindzierski and Galen Showman. All of these creators are truly talented and this issue spotlights all their combined strengths. Which is beautiful. P. Craig Russell and Jerry Ordway have stepped out of the past and seemingly have lost nothing at all to the ravages of time. Mignola continues to peak and I wish his name was on issue #2. But I have read these stories a thousand times!!! Just like in his novel, nothing is "Gaimanized". Nothing. It is just a simple straightforward retelling. There's nothing new except the artwork... And dear reader... that is just the tip of my frustration. After being perturbed that Gaiman and now P. Craig Russell have added nothing story wise, at least talent like Russell, Mignola and Ordway can surely show me some new great visuals? Certainly right? Nope. Nothing is different. Not only is the story the same as I've read before, but the visuals are the same too. Thor has wings on his helmet!!! Wings for Ratatosk's sake. And a red cape! Loki has horns on his helmet and is as close to green and yellow as you can get... So disappointing... Like I may not read issue #2 disappointing. If I did not know better I would say this comic was drawn 40 some years ago... And that is not meant to be compliment. p.s. I will totally not only be reading #2 I will be buying it as well. Yes I am that guy. What of it?
