Reviews

'Plunge' is the Steven Spielberg/John Carpenter crossover you didn't know you needed.

You do.

Carpenter here is Joe Hill, he of Hill House fame. If you're reading the fantastic 'Basketful of Heads', you're already familiar. Spielberg is Stuart Immonen, coming out of retirement for specifically to work with Hill, presenting comics in his spectacular visual language. This is a lighter book (so far) for Hill, and a much darker one for Immonen. It might be fitting then that he's drawing with a more realistic 'Secret Identity'style, and inking himself rather than superhero great Wade Von Grawbadger.

A ship missing for 40 years has started broadcasting off an atoll near the Russian border. The company who owns that ship want to bring their dead home, but are anxious in that "Let's go to Skull Island NOW!" way that should make nervous nellies out of any on the salvage team.

Appearances by Charles Martin Smith, Truffaut's character from 'Close Encounters', and the lawyer from 'Jurassic Park' rolled into one, a crew that identifies themselves as characters from 'Jaws', and Carpenter (not the one you're thinking) himself should give you a giddy chill down your spine. It's well deserved.
