Spinning out of the pages of “The Joker War” comes the first solo book starring the blockbuster new character Punchline. As she faces the consequences for her role in “The Joker War,” the story of how Alexis Kaye became Punchline will take Leslie Thompkins, Harper Row, and Cullen Row on a harrowing journey that reveals a fringe teenager’s radicalization to the ideology of a madman. It’s a terrifying tale so big it demanded an oversize special issue!

Reviews

Punchline has not been an interesting character. Alexis Kay is also not an interesting character. This makes her the anti-Harley. There are Joker henchmen in positions of power, helping him, helping her, seeping lies out to the public when there is easily verifiable truth that she is lost, an unsympathetic criminal, guilty on many fronts.

In a case like that, there's little enjoyment from a book that wants to show how easy it is for Joker cult members to cult it up on the old cult box by trying to will a thing (her guilt) into a thing (her innocence) when all available evidence, shows that only one of those is true, no matter what the Joker cultists believe.

And really? People inside the top levels of Gotham City Police, the Gotham City legal system, Gotham City politicians would so easily fail to do their duty when their duty is so clearly defined? That they would commit acts that would require termination, be legally actionable, even impeachable just to keep some Joker in power?

This feels like a scenario Tynion's super excellent title 'Department of Truth' would be working to prevent.
