Reviews

This book would only be an '8' if it wasn't for Stuart Immonen. He's the new penciller. If you're not familiar w/ his work, there's tons of it, too many great books to list here. The writing is about the same- Jason Aaron is a good (but not great) fit for the material, but we still have movie repetition issues in dialogue and concepts. I imagine the approval meetings w/ Lucasfilm must go something like this: " Han and Leia use a stolen Imperial Shuttle. The Empire figures out its stolen. That wouldn't mean they're on a higher alert to look for those sort of things in Jedi, right? Moving on. Han's a scoundrel, hey about that? If we have him say that, in front of Leia, that doesn't remove the impact of her using that term in Empire, does it? It does? Well, let's do it all anyway!" It's the sort of stuff that keeps the book from being great.

But the art....oh, man, the art. This is the best Star Wars has ever looked in comics next to Al Williamson, worth the wait, worth the excitement, worthy of the hype I'm giving. If you haven't seen Immonen's work before, prepare to be wowed. Praise Doom, let him stay for more than 6 issues, and thank Doom for his work here.
