Reviews

New writer Matthew Rosenberg has done a fine job bringing following in Jo Duffy's footsteps with Star Wars #108.

Missing its original shipping date of May 4th, 1986 by just a bit, we're thrown into events occurring after the Tof standoff in the previous issue. Luke did say they could make peace now, and peace means new adventures, right? Those adventures lead us back into deep territory from Marvel's post movie Star Wars comics. With appearances from Jaxxon and Amaiza (for the first time since Star Wars #10...can you believe its been eight years already?) and somehow...Valance the Hunter!

A fan favorite since a fill-in issue drawn by Walt Simonson (continuing his thrilling run on 'Thor' right now!), Valance can be seen as a bit of a counterpoint (or possibly inspiration) to something more modern and violent like Jim Cameron's Terminator film from 2 years back. Luke reminded Valance that caring and sacrifice are qualities worth pursuing even for those different than ourselves in their earlier adventures, and that lesson greatly impacts this story.

While Cynthia Martin may have left with Duffy, Marvel provides an army of new names to keep the galaxy's adventures moving along. The great Kerry Gammill is here, along with returning artist Jan Duursema (see Star Wars #92). They partner with a host of names that you might not know yet, but may just have careers in front of them.

Of Particular Note!! The section of our reviews where we draw attention to things you need to know.
OPN: This story is a follow up to the great Archie Goodwin's 'Crimson Forever' from Star Wars #50. Given that Star Wars film entertainment has reached its conclusion with 'Return of the Jedi', it is nice to see a Star Wars sequel in some form. It is also comforting to know that even though the characters may end up in new situations, no creative team given a chance to play in the Star Wars universe would EVER pass on the opportunity to put Luke, Leia, and Han together. (It would be disastrous, right?)
This has been Of Particular Note!!
